Studies show that only 2.5% of companies complete their projects successfully. Even those who are successful find it difficult to stay on the preset deadline, which means the results are delivered late.
The thing is, you might have everything down right already. And all you need is the right project management framework to execute your tasks.
In that case, you need scrum.
What is scrum, and how can it help your business? Read on to find out more about this methodology.
What Is Scrum?
Scrum is a framework that helps teams perform cohesively towards a common goal. It's typically used for software development teams, but scrum can be used for any project that requires teamwork.
This concept was first introduced in 1995 in "The Scrum Guide." However, the basis was first introduced in 1986 in the article "The New New Product Development Game."
Scrum consists of three main pillars: transparency, inspection, and adaptation. Plus, its values are focus, commitment, respect, courage, and openness; without these, the project will fail.
The Team
The scrum team is simple. You have a product owner, scrum master, and development team.
The product owner is the person who communicates between the team and the customers.
The scrum master is also known as the project facilitator, and can also be the project manager. They ensure that the project is going well, and keeps people on track.
The development team consists of employees who work to get the product from concept to realization.
The Scrum Methodology
How scrum works is in increments. So naturally, you'll have daily scrums, which are stand-up meetings.
In these brief sessions, you'll go over what you accomplished yesterday and what you're tackling today. This is the opportunity to discuss potential roadblocks.
You'll also have sprints, which are usually 30 days. These are periods of time to complete certain tasks, and sprints follow one another.
These sprints are determined by sprint planning meetings, and everyone has a say in which goals need to be done and by when. Afterward, you'll have sprint reviews and retrospectives where you'll discuss how to improve future sprints.
Benefits of Using Scrum
It may take some time to implement scrum at your company, but it will instigate positive changes. Benefits of using scrum include:
